Still Gearing Up for Vegas
Vegas News
I leave for Las Vegas pretty soon and I am very excited. I am staying in the central strip area and will be able to get around pretty easily via walking, the monorail and free shuttles. In addition I am meeting up with a close fraternity brother that lives out in Vegas and all that combined with hanging out with some internet poker friends has me UBER-ready to get out to Sin City.
While in Vegas I plan to play at the Venetian as I've never played there and I hear it's the place to play at these days. Super swanky room with a lot of fish playing there that have deep pockets. That sounds fun to me. I'll probably end up in random spots, like O'Sheas or Red Rock and play there, and every day I plan at least one or two video + picture updates thanks to the new iPhone 3G S, as successfully tested in the previous post.
Playing Online...
In the last few days I've been playing 100nl Full Ring which has been a nice reminder into why I didn't like playing it over 6max. The games are very nitty, the regs okay and overall it's just a game of winning lots of small pots and getting as much value as possible for big hands. Fortunately it's been a good reminder into the patience needed to win the game.
What Site?
Well the move to the "new site" was an unofficial failure. To reveal the terribly kept secret I've been playing on the Cereus Network, which has some decent traffic and some terrible players. Let's look at the positives and negatives:
POSITIVES:
- Uber-Bad Player Pool
- Sexy Reload Bonuses
- Got a 35% rakeback deal
- Found a nice skin thanks to TiltBuster.com
- Customer Service = A+
NEGATIVES
- Not enough traffic to satisfy my hunger
- Unlocking the bonuses even playing 100nl takes forever
- Brutal Software and general lack of 3rd party support
- Moving roll to this site is a huge pain in the butt
- 50% rake reduction when unlocking bonuses
- Huge lack of PLO games, which I like to play
So, that has me sour on the whole Cereus Poker experience. Basically between trust/VIP system/Rakeback ... I really should either stick it out with Stars (and somehow go for SuperNova which I am not even 40% there) or move to Full Tilt Poker. Moving to Full Tilt would require me to get rakeback on my existing account (in process, and I did not sign up through an affiliate so it should be fine, it just takes forever).
Anyways, so that big move might happen, and I mean BIG because I'd move my whole bankroll and plow through 100nl with the goal of making some money lol ... the goal of EVERY time I play poker.
Tournaments = Suck
A good online poker friend, Tygran, IM'd me last night and we decided to get into a couple of 180-man SNGs last night. What the hell right? So I registered for a $12 one and a $6.50 one. The play is so terrible. I doubled up in both rather quickly. I went card dead in one, stayed patient and shoved with A8 and was called by A3 and lost (of course). Then in the other this happened (wasn't busted but...):
Just bleh. Sure I'm 80-20% preflop, but after that flop I figure I'm good since I have a 88-12% advantage ... lol but low and behold he hits runner runner flush. After that it was downhill card dead, shoved two broadway cards with 8 big blinds, and lost. I have to admit my understanding of the requirements of a good tournament player totally escape me. This is why I have totally banned myself from tournaments in Vegas!
Thanks for reading ... long post but it had been a while. Good luck!
Have a great time in Vegas Ice. I’m sure with the CC crew that will be there things will be interesting. Are you going to pick up AG’s sweet ride with him (and his blue hair)?
Nice post man! Cereus is a good choice at the moment, how did u get a 35% rakeback deal?
I thought the max was 30%
thanks
What a coincidence! I’ve been playing on the Cereus network lately *and* bubbled last night when I shoved with A/8 and lost to a guy who called with A/3.
