My NFL Playoff Predictions
Yes, it's that time of year one again people. As you might remember I've successfully predicted a Stanley Cup winner and a Super Bowl Champion with these in the last 3 years. So let's just jump right into it and see who's coming out on top!
---------------------------
WILD CARD ROUND:
Jets at Bengals
The Jets pasted the Bengals last week, but this time they play for real and in Cincinnati. The Jets will be exposed as the pretenders they are who got a free walk into the playoffs.
Prediction: Bengals (4 Seed) defeat the Jets, 24-10
============
Ravens at Patriots
A lot of people are predicting that the Ravens have the momentum to defeat New England. The loss of Welker might be too much for the Pats to overcome, but they are playoff tested. This isn't an easy one to pick, but the Patriots have been absolute money at home all year long. I think they eeeeeek by in this one.
Prediction: Patriots (3 Seed) defeat the Ravens, 27-20
============
Eagles at Cowboys
The Cowboys are hot and have been ever since the Chargers beat them up. They toasted the Eagles last week and this time they are home. Is this finally the year that Romo and Wade Phillips finally win a game in the playoffs? Yes.
Prediction: Cowboys (4 Seed) defeat the Eagles, 31-27
============
Packers at Cardinals
The Cardinals have coasted through the regular season somewhat uninspired coming off a beating of their own at the expense of the Packers. Did the Packers unleash the playbook while the Cards stood pat? Not at all. This is the story of a hot team playing against an old, tired team.
Prediction: Packers (5 Seed) defeat the Cardinals, 28-24
==============================
DIVISIONAL ROUND:
Patriots at Chargers
It just seems absolutely fitting that the Patriots have to return to San Diego to face the Chargers, who have to exorcise their demons if they want to get to the Super Bowl. The last time the Chargers faced a team they had a feud with, they destroyed the Titans on Christmas. For some reason, I just think the Chargers will take this one as personal as any game they've ever played. This time, the Pats won't have sideline tapes to help them.
Prediction: Chargers (2 Seed) defeat the Patriots, 34-17
===========
Bengals at Colts
I don't know why but there's this part of me that really wants to pick the Bengals. The Colts have lost 2 games in a row playing lazy football while resting most their starters. Will three weeks of rest make the Colts super rusty? Absolutely. I hate teams that over-rest their players. I hate rookie head coaches. I hate a team with a crappy running game in the playoffs. Wow ... I think I just picked the biggest upset of them all. The Bengals will use their tragedies to inspire them to victory over a lazy and overconfident team.
Predictions: Bengals (4 Seed) defeat the Colts, 27-20
===========
Packers at Saints
Was there a hotter team than the Saints during the first 13 games of the season? Was there a team that got colder the last 3? There's some panic setting in New Orleans and the red-hot Packers come to town. It's just hard to image that all these weapons which enjoyed a needed week of rest will just fall flat in the SuperDome.
Prediction: Saints (1 Seed) defeat the Packers, 38-31
===========
Cowboys at Vikings
These are just two teams that are known for their recent failures in the playoffs. Farve got needed rest with a week off and the team got some confidence back with their Week 17 win. The Cowboys come in hot and confident, but good enough to beat the Vikings? I think all the little problems in Minnesota finally blow up and Farve does what he does best - take too many risks.
Prediction: Cowboys (4 Seed) defeat the Vikings, 24-16
=======================================================
CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND:
Bengals at Chargers
This is a bit of a shocker, and once again the Chargers face a team from long ago that denied them a chance at a championship. This time, the Chargers repeat what they did weeks ago and finally get the job done. This will not be a blow out and will be close until the 4th quarter when Rivers & Co. just blow past the Bengals.
Prediction: Chargers (2 Seed) defeat the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game, 26-23
============
Cowboys at Saints
This is a really tough game to pick. If the Saints win big in their playoff game and look great, I really don't think anyone can stop them. But the Cowboys can really expose their secondary problems and have plenty of confidence coming off the fact they killed the Saints weeks ago. I think Wade Phillips and the 3-4 defense comes through. Wow, I can't believe I just picked the Cowboys to go to the SuperBowl.
Prediction: Cowboys (4 Seed) defeat the Saints, 33-20 in the NFC Championship Game
=======================================================
THE SUPER BOWL:
Dallas Cowboys vs San Diego Chargers
Wade Phillips faces his old team and the Chargers face the fact that they will be favored in the Super Bowl. To me, Philip Rivers seems much more of a big game quarterback that Tony Romo will ever be, and I think, once and for all, that the Chargers will FINALLY get it done. Their defense is good enough to limit Dallas and there's not much Dallas can do against the Charger's amazing passing offense.
Predictions: Dear GOD in heaven, I pick the San Diego Chargers to win the Super Bowl, 38-21.
Little home team bias there Ice?
I like your SB teams but hope for a reversal in score.
Worried about Dallas though. Hopefully they can make a bit of a run at least.
