January 2009 Recap

Simply put, January 2009 was the craziest month of poker I've experienced. I started the month massively overrolled for 50nl and playing 6max, and I end up 9-tabling 100nl Full Ring. How the heck did that happen? I also played 100nl fullring at 7BB/100 for about 10k hands and end up at 3.15BB/100 ... which begs the same question - how the heck did that happen?

Let's examine this in terms of BRAGs vs BEATs! Fun!!

BRAG: Biggest profit for a single month, +$1,275.56!!! WooOOooT! This represents my first four-figure month playing cash game poker.

BEAT: Went through a massive -$700ish downslide about 2/3 of the month through that really messed with my mind. That's just a ton of money to me right now ... but it's just no different than any other 7 buyin downswing. Learning to deal with that is part of my growth. Finished the month with a super swingy stretch that (as readers of the blog are aware) were filled with coolers.

BRAG: Set a career high for hands played in a month with 25,915. Retained gold star for yet another month!

BEAT: Came up only about 1,800 VPPs short of hitting platinum. It sucks to get that close and come up short but it really wasn't a goal for the month.

BRAG: Apparently gained fans of the blog. I think it's cool people read this, and I am beginning to realize I can't use it as a venting thread, but more for actual poker insight, analysis, and updates to my game.

BEAT: Didn't finish the CardsChat 2008 Awards Show. ARG. I want to get it done.

So there it is. Below is the cash game graph. I didn't do any rakeback MTTs because I am just going to save up for the cash bonus. Life is easier that way.
